Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, May 12, 2013!
Do you want to participate in Fibromyalgia Awareness Day 2013 and don't know where to start? There are a lot of things that you can do to help! If you are just focusing on Awareness, send a mass email to friends and family. Announce in your email that it is Fibromyalgia Awareness Day and include an article on Fibromyalgia. Following is a link to an incredible article explaining fibro to those that do not understand. http://chronicfatigue.about.com/od/whatisfibromyalgia/a/understandfibro.htm Ask that they forward the email to their friends and family. The internet is a very powerful tool!
Do you want to raise funds to donate to a fibromyalgia organization? Organize your own fundraiser! Yankee Candle has a GREAT fundraiser with no minumum to purchase. You can canvas your neighborhood and others or call your local grocery store to see if you can set up a fundraising table in front of their store for the day. (Some only allow fundraisers on the weekend, you may need to fundraise the weekend prior to the 12th, if that is the case).
Conduct a raffle! A couple of weeks prior to the event, contact local businesses, explain what you are doing and request that they make a donation to be raffled off for a fundraiser (you would be surprised at how many businesses will participate). Go to your local dollar store and buy items to make up a gift basket, (I made a couple of these for a raffle, I purchased a couple of baskets and I included bath gel, bath crystals, body butter, a bath pillow, a micro-fiber washcloth, a loofah, a candle and a cd of ocean sounds and used cellophane bags to wrap them in). This raffle you can conduct with friends and family or again, in front of the grocery store. You can pick how much you want to charge per raffle ticket. I charged $1.00 each ticket or $3.00 for 5 tickets. There are several free raffle ticket templates on the internet if you just google them. Or, I have a great template that I found that I can forward to you if you would like, just email me at fibroawareness@yahoo.com
Any proceeds that you receive, you can donate to the fibromyalgia organization of your choice! I hope this gives you some great ideas for Fibromyalgia Awareness Day! And please, if you have any ideas, email them to me! Happy Fibromyalgia Awareness Day!
